Real Estate information for the Greater Vancouver
area:Real estate sales in the Greater Vancouver area have been
steadily climbing over the last few years. However sales volumes appear to have
steadied in the early months of 2006. Within the City of Vancouver average
house prices are about $500,000 prices are naturally lower in the
suburbs.
For people not familiar with the areas of Greater Vancouver
(2004 population in brackets):
Vancouver City: (583,296) The
city itself has three distinct areas which we locals refer to as east side,
west side and downtown. The east side is the area east of Main
Street and between Burrard Inlet to the north and the Fraser River to the
south. The west side is west of Main Street and stretches from False
Creek south to the Fraser River. The downtown area is the main
business district from Main Street west to Stanley Park and from Burrard Inlet
south to False Creek. The downtown area is the scene most often depicted in
photos of Vancouver. Vancouver is ranked 5th in North America for the number of
high rise buildings. There are 500+ buildings, over 12 stories, almost all of
them are in the downtown area.
Other cities in the Greater Vancouver
area:
North(47,000) and West(44,000) Vancouver These 2 cities
are on the north side of Burrard Inlet at the base of the mountains seen in
many photos of Vancouver. The boundary between the two follows the Capilano
River almost directly north of the Lions Gate Bridge. There is also the
District of North Vancouver(87,000) which stretches from the Capilano
River east to Deep Cove and surrounds North Vancouver City which is along the
water front.
Burnaby(203,000) Burnaby is directly east of the
City of Vancouver, the border between the 2 cities is Boundary Road. Burnaby
stretches from Burrard Inlet south to the Fraser River and from Boundary Road
east to the Cities of New Westminster(58,000) Coquitlam and Port
Coquitlam(122,000) Port Moody(27,000.) Other cities east of the above 3
are: Pitt Meadows(16,000) and Maple
Ridge(70,000.)
Richmond(173,000) Richmond is south of
Vancouver on Lulu Island. The Vancouver Airport is part of Richmond and is
located on Sea Island. The town of Steveston is also part of Richmond.
South of Richmond are the following towns/cities Ladner(part of
Delta) - directly across the south arm of the Fraser River from
Richmond Tsawwassen (part of Delta)- The B.C. Ferry terminal is
located in Tsawwassen
To the south east: White Rock(20,000) -
which is along the border with the U.S.A Delta and North
Delta(102,000) Surrey(384,000) - the largest city by land
area. Langley City Langley Township(31,000)
Other
areas which are also part of the official Greater Vancouver Regional District
(GVRD): Anmore(1500) Belcarra(750) Bowen Island(3300) Lions
