Welcome to the BLOCKWALK - Vancouver
index! These particular pages are all about the City of Vancouver and its
companion cities, voted the #2 place to live in all of the world!
(see foot note **) Actually, for 2 years in a row
Vancouver had the honour of being tied for #1 with Zurich and in 2002 came a
close second to Zurich. We have now added two new categories to our
Vancouver information: the Westside and the
Eastside pages. Vancouver is the largest city in
the province of British Columbia, Canada. It is situated in the southwestern
corner of the province, located approximately 40 kilometres north of the
Washington State border. Vancouver is surrounded on three sides by water -
Burrard Inlet to the north, the Straight of Georgia separating Vancouver from
Vancouver Island to the west, and the north arm of the Fraser River to the
south. The view to the north is of the nearby coastal mountains rising to the
height of 3,048 feet in North Vancouver and West Vancouver. The City of Burnaby
is to the east, the City of Richmond is to the south and the Strait of Georgia
is to the west. Vancouver's strategic location has helped it to take a leading
position in trade. It is near mid-point on the west coast of North America, and
is equidistant by air from London and Tokyo. With a geographic surface area of
44 square miles, Vancouver is the second smallest area of eight major Canadian
cities. The metropolitan area of 1,076 square miles is the third largest
metropolitan area in Canada. The City of Vancouver is part of a
conglomeration of cities. The Greater Vancouver area includes West Vancouver,
North Vancouver, Burnaby, Richmond, New Westminster, Coquitlam, North
Coquitlam, Port Moody, Pitt Meadows, Maple Ridge, Surrey, North Delta, Ladner,
Tsawwassen and White Rock.
** The #1 rating was
achieved by the rating system of the William M. Mercer company, the world's
largest human resource consulantancy. The survey takes into consideration many
quality of life factors. |
