Welcome to the westside of Vancouver page. There
is always a little confusion about the 3 "Wests" of Vancouver.
This page is for the "west side" of
Vancouver. There is also the "West End" of Vancouver
which is the area west of the downtown business core, adjacent to Stanley
Park. And third, there is the City of West Vancouver which is located
to the Northwest across Burrard Inlet. It is accessible by crossing the Lions
Gate Bridge and heading west along various routes.
The westside of Vancouver is the area west of Main
Street (some will argue that it is West of Cambie Street and others West of Oak
Street) just south of the main Downtown Business District. It is bordered on
the South by the Fraser River, to the East by the East
Side of Vancouver, to the North by the Granville Island/False Creek area
and to the West by the Straight of Georgia. The westside includes the
following neighbourhoods: Granville Island,
Fairview, Mount Pleasant, Kitsilano, West Point
Grey, University of British Columbia (UBC),
Dunbar-Southlands, Arbutus
Ridge, Shaughnessy, Oakridge, South
Cambie, Kerrisdale and Marpole. Many of Vancouver's most popular attractions
are in the westside and University of British Columbia Endowment Lands
areas.
The westside is primarily a residential area with almost no
Hotels. Primary shopping areas of the westside are Granville Island
(under Granville Bridge,) the South Granville Rise (Fairview
neighbourhood) shopping district from the South end of the Granville Bridge
south to 16th Avenue, 4th Avenue in Kitsilano, the Kerrisdale
shopping area including 41st Avenue and West Boulevard, the Marpole
shopping area from 63rd and Granville south to 72nd Avenue, the Arbutus
Mall at 29th and Arbutus and the Dunbar shopping area from 16th and
Dunbar south to 41st Avenue.
Beaches in the westside and UBC area:
Kitsilano Beach, Jericho Beach, Locarno Beach, Spanish Banks Beach and Wreck
Beach at UBC
The dividing street between Eastside and Westside Vancouver
is Main Street (actually by street address it is 2 blocks West of Main.) An
address of 1877 West 10th Avenue would place you near Burrard
Street and 1877 East 10th Avenue would be East of Main Street
near Victoria Drive.
