Driving to the Whistler/Blackcomb area from Seattle and the USA

If you wish to avoid the potential heavy traffic of downtown Vancouver we recommend the following route when driving from Seattle or any other points south of Vancouver:

The highway from Seattle is Interstate 5 which turns into Highway 99 at the Canadian border.
A few minutes after crossing the border a junction (Exit 16) with Highway 91 will be on the right, take Highway 91 and proceed North.
After proceeding North on 91 you will cross the Alex Fraser Bridge (very big Bridge) stay in the right lane, after coming off the bridge your lane will curve to the right and lead you to the Queensborough Bridge.
After crossing the Queensborough Bridge take the exit which leads westbound on Marine Way.
Once on Marine Way proceed West to Boundary Road and turn North (right.)
Proceed North on Boundary Road to one of two entrances to the Trans Canada Highway # 1 or may be called #401 in the area.
The first entrance is just after you cross Grandview Highway (12th Avenue.) This entrance is off the right hand lane, while going down a fairly steep hill.
The second entrance to Highway 1 is off of 1st Avenue. Turn left onto 1st from Boundary Road and then shortly after turn right on to the entrance ramp for the Trans Canada #1.
Stay on the Trans Canada which leads over the Iron Workers Memorial Bridge (2nd Narrows Bridge is the old name.)
Once over the bridge you will go up a hill and be on the Upper Levels Highway (still #1) passing through the cities of North Vancouver and West Vancouver. Enjoy the view but watch the road too!
Your next turn-off is near Horseshoe Bay where you will exit to the right and on to the Sea to Sky Highway, Highway 99.
The Sea to Sky Highway is mainly 2 lanes along the steep mountain shoreline of Howe Sound. Caution should be used on this highway, there are wonderful views and drivers are easily distracted. Expect minor delays as the highway is being upgraded.
Along the way you will pass the village of Lions Bay, and the old mining village of Britannia Beach. Next is Squamish and then Brackendale. The highway then proceeds North to the Whistler/Blackcomb Resort area.
